Lone Wolf Guide Service provides guided fly-fishing on the Straight River - Minnesota's Premier Trophy Brown Trout Stream. Evening trips (2 people max.) during the month of June are the norm. This is when the larger mayflies hatch (hex and brown drake) and I specialize in dry fly fishing for trophy browns. The Hex hatch (largest mayflies) peaks in mid-late June. Booking a trip during this time period offers the angler the best shot at fish over 20 inches. Most fish average 15-20", with a number of 20"+ browns taken each year. The largest trout taken during the hex hatch can reach 25" or more! June 12-26 provides the peak hex fishing most years, and advance bookings are necessary -- open dates fill quickly. I usually end my Straight River guiding season by the 4” of July, but continue to offer trout fishing charters on one of Minnesota’s clearest and most scenic inland lakes in the Park Rapids area, famous for its exceptional Rainbow Trout fishing. Charters (up to 6 people) will be offered this year from late May through mid-July at very reasonable rates. By mid-July my passionate pursuit of Lake Superior’s fantastic Trout and Salmon takes up most of my time. Mid-July through August often finds me living aboard the 24’ Lone Wolf III -- docked at the Silver Bay Marina on Minnesota’s breathtakingly scenic North Shore. In addition to exceptional trout fishing, Lone Wolf Guide Service also offers day trips for Smallmouth bass during the month of June — the peak time for these spectacular game- fish. Sight fishing is very productive while the bass are in the shallows, and both fly and spin fishing provides the best action of the year. Some fish over 20” (4-6lbs) are taken each season, and 17”-19” fish are common. Guided Smallmouth fishing is offered mainly during the peak month of June but good fishing occasionally lasts into early July. (2 people max. for bass fishing) Call 218-573-3089 to book a trip. Finally, as the fishing seasons wind down, Lone Wolf Guide Service provides guided Ruffed Grouse hunting in some of the best covers Minnesota has to offer. Fall colors are exquisite up here in North-Central MN, and most serious upland hunters know Minnesota ’s ruffed grouse hunting is second to none. Peak years often provide more than 30 flushes per day! Limits are common for those who shoot well. Even our lower cycle years are better than most states’ best years. Last fall’s average was still about 3 flushes per hour. This fall should be even better! You may bring your own dog(s) if you wish. Wild Pheasant and unique, small back-water hunts for Woodduck and Teal are also available on a limited basis during October and November.
